We are looking forward to working with Arup as part of a wider team developing a Shared Digital Carbon Architecture (SDCA) for DfT and their partners. This SDCA aims to transform the way carbon data is captured, managed and exploited to support advanced analysis, policy development and to de-risk interdependent strategic infrastructure delivery.

Partners include Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, Department for Education, Homes England, Environment Agency, Network Rail, National Highways, Infrastructure Projects Authority and the Transport Infrastructure Efficiency Strategy Living Lab.

Congratulations to our clients Hitachi and their partners Alstom for winning the contract to build and maintain HS2 Trains in the UK. We were delighted to have been able to support the bid with FCP.

Michelle had a great day out joining a panel discussion on ‘Climate Adaptation: the crucial role of the infrastructure sector in creating a green and resilient future’ arranged by the Infrastructure Operators Adaptation Forum as a side event to COP26 in Glasgow. What made it very exciting was it took place on our client Porterbrook’s HydroFLEX train, the UK’s first hydrogen-ready passenger train.

As part of the rail industry’s response to the Williams-Shapps Review and the formation of GB Railways Eracura is working with Arup to support the development of key parts of the Sustainable Rail Strategy (SRS) for RSSB. The SRS will form a key input to the Whole Industry Strategic Plan. Our input will cover climate resilience, biodiversity, water, circular economy, social value, community integration, supply chain resilience and noise.

We are looking forward to working with the Arup team again on a Sustainable Development and Environmental Impact in Rail Study for ORR. This is a research study examining ORR’s approach to sustainable development and environmental management.

The study aims to identify ORR’s material issues and benchmark and evaluate activity against other economic regulators to identify good practice. It will include engagement with Network Rail, RSSB, and economic and environmental regulators.

Karen is leading the sustainability submission for a Public Service Concession Contract for the Operation of Urban and Inter-city Trains Nice-Azur for Arriva UK Trains Ltd focusing on delivering a low carbon network (operations and infrastructure) as part of an FCP team.

We are excited to be providing rail sustainability expertise in a project with Arup delivering Sustainability Leadership Capability Training for Network Rail’s senior leadership team. The training focuses on megatrends, key sustainability issues and how leaders can embed and deliver the Sustainability Strategy. It will be delivered virtually.

Following on from the first phase of work with RSSB, and in response to Jo Johnson, Minister of State for the Department for Transport request for the industry to develop a carbon reduction strategy by September 2018, we have been pleased to help develop a preliminary road map of activity. We have also helped to develop RSSB’s approach to the rapidly developing position on air pollution.
