Arriva UK Trains
Eracura was approached by Arriva UK Trains Ltd and asked to provide strategic advice and a quality review on their broad approach to sustainability (socio-economic and environment), as part of their bid for the new East Midlands franchise. In the words of the DfT this franchise will be about driving growth in the East Midlands – with connectivity as a driver for social and economic prosperity. The bid was submitted in September 2018 and the new franchise will commence in August 2019.
“I really enjoyed working with both Karen and Michelle and am incredibly grateful for all their work and support.”Thomas Raynor, Stakeholder Engagement and Communities Manager, Arriva UK Trains – Franchise Bidding
Eracura provided technical support and advice to aid the thinking around the Rail Industry Sustainable Development plan. The Phase 1 tasks included undertaking a gap analysis of key industry documents against the Sustainable Development principles and a contextual review outlining potential risks of inaction, outline business case and proposing levels of ambition. Phase 2 focussed on outlining preliminary action plans for decarbonisation and air quality, the former made more pressing as a result of the Minister of State at Department for Transport Jo Johnson’s request for a carbon reduction strategy by September 2018.
“Eracura offer that rare mix of real experience and strategic insight and delivered fantastic levels of depth, detail and insight to help really drive our programme forward.”Anthony Perret – Head of Sustainable Development Programme, RSSB

“Abellio has worked successfully with both Karen and Michelle on a number of recent rail franchises. The innovative thinking around the wider sustainability agenda, specifically the approach to delivering socio-economic improvements and added social value, was instrumental in helping us win the West Midlands franchise. The strong belief and passion for seeing improvements in this area is clear.”Jane Fisher – Transition and Projects Director, West Midlands Trains Ltd
Helping to make environmental data more relevant to the audience
Eracura worked with Virgin Trains to help turn their environmental success stories into more accessible metrics for their employees. The project involved researching appropriate data equivalents pertinent to the Virgin Trains business and the conversion of all appropriate energy, carbon, waste and water data. The final equivalents were to be used in the Virgin Trains publication ‘Our Amazing Journey’.
“We thoroughly enjoyed working with Eracura and look forward to working with them again in the future. They supported us throughout the process, ensuring that the outputs aligned to our business’s visions and values.”Zinzi Dzuda – Responsible Business Manager
